Mazak gives EuroBLECH debut to new entry-level laser machine

Yamazaki Mazak is giving a European debut to its new entry-level laser cutting machine at EuroBLECH 2014.

The new OPTIPLEX Nexus 3015 has been designed specifically for customers who want to introduce laser capability into their manufacturing operations but have no previous experience of using laser machines and require easy installation, set-up and programming.

The new machine is a 2.5 kW CO2 laser with one of the smallest footprints for its class, 10% less than comparable machines, which makes it suitable for even the smallest machine shop. The compact footprint is possible due to the revolutionary positioning of the resonator above the electric cabinet which enables a compact design with no impact on the table size which, at 3050mm x 1525mm, remains equal to competitor machines in its class.

The machine is easily programmed using MAZATROL Preview 3 CNC which means users can program without any need for CADCAM software. Crucially, for novice laser users, Preview 3 is equipped with a simple geometry pattern function that allows inexperienced operators to program and perform simple geometric shapes with all cutting parameters generated automatically.

The OPTIPLEX Nexus 3015 is also equipped with laser synchronous control for extra control during the corner cutting of thick materials. Synchronous control enables the key cutting parameters, including acceleration, deceleration, cutting modes and gas pressure to be adjusted depending on the corner angles to improve the overall quality of the cut.

Despite being an entry-level machine, the OPTIPLEX Nexus 3015 is equipped with a range of added-value functions rarely offered in a machine of its class. Automatic set-up dramatically reduces set-up time and reduces operator errors by automating key set-up procedures including nozzle changing, focal distance measuring, adjusting and profiling.

In addition, Automatic Gap Calibration measurement ensures a stable distance between material and nozzle during the cutting operation and Automatic Focal Distance ensures the focal point is re-set when the lens changes guaranteeing the correct focal position for each material and thickness.

The OPTIPLEX Nexus 3015 is also equipped with a host of intelligent functions, including pierce detection, lens monitoring, a burn sensor and a plasma sensor and lens. The machine is also easily extendable with options for a pallet changer or FMS.

Gaetano Lo Guzzo, Director Laser Business for Mazak Europe, commented on the new machine: “The OPTIPLEX Nexus 3015 has been developed as an entry-level machine for users who want to make the move into laser cutting operations.

“Typically, new laser customers have five key criteria when specifying a new machine, price, footprint, user-friendly operation, accessibility and extendibility. The OPTIPLEX Nexus 3015 offers all of these criteria in a compact, reliable, easy-to-programme machine that can be quickly installed and integrated with FMS and other automation systems.”
